What is Metal Finishing?

The whole objective of metal finishing is to enhance common and rare metals used in everyday products with an added layer of protection to prevent corrosion, increase the lifespan and in some cases, to create a decorative aesthetic. There are many methods that can be used to achieve this such as Electroplating and but two of the most common are Powder Coating and Wet Paint Coating. Before either of these methods can be used the metal must first be treated to make sure it is free of any contaminants.

Pre-Treatment
Pre-treating the metal before coating it is vital for producing a high-quality finish. It will also enhance protection against any corrosion, or general wear and tear. There are a number of methods for pre-treatment of substrates including immersion, batch loaded semi-automatic washers and continuous spray.

Types of Metal Finish:
Powder Coating
Powder Coating uses an electrostatic charge to apply free-flowing powder to metal. It is then cured in an industrial oven to form a dense and flawless layer that is durable and has long-term resistance to corrosion.

Wet Paint
Wet paint has been one of the mainstay processes used in metal finishing. By using specially designed Paint Spray Booths, users are able to deploy wet paint for large volume runs at a much-reduced cost when compared to powder.

It can also be used to cover heat-sensitive materials and non-metal products giving it a much wider application.

Importance of Servicing and Maintenance
Making sure that all of your Powder Coating and wet paint plant machinery is regularly and thoroughly maintained is of utmost importance. Neglecting to service or maintain small issues that may arise can often lead to much costlier problems down the line. That’s where a company like PB Metal Finishing can help.
